I've always been fascinated by how art and science come together. Some remarkable work by contemporary artist Timothy Horn', the medusa sculptures, are a case in point.
These large chandelier-like structures are based on 19th-century engraved images by German zoologist Ernst Haeckel , and made of transparent silicone rubber. Check out Haeckel's illustrations in "Art Forms in Nature". In the 19th century, scientists could really draw! There are about 100 prints in the book, all equally unbelievable.
